Peltier Cooling Belt
During the summer of 2024, my mother expressed dissatisfaction with a cooling device she was using to treat hot flashes and anxiety. She felt that the cooling element wasn’t cold enough nor effective on her wrist and instead preferred for the device be applied to her lower back.
I set out to create a modified version of the device that could be worn on the lower back. After reviewing the patents and early prototypes of the device she was using, I discovered I could purchase an affordable Peltier cooler on Amazon. With some creative wiring and a bit of Arduino programming, I aimed to build a functional prototype.
This project gave me a hands-on introduction to wiring and electronics fundamentals. With a solid foundation in coding, I found the biggest challenge — and ultimately the most rewarding aspect — was figuring out how to supply sufficient current to the Peltier modules.
Now that I know how to design PCBs, I’m excited to revisit this project and develop a final prototype.
